“Turkey neck exercises,” the videos promising to smooth a sagging neck with a bit of face yoga, rack up millions of views. But can simple moves really erase loose skin and restore a defined jawline? Below, Philadelphia board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brannon Claytor shares what science (and decades of neck-rejuvenation experience) tells us about exercises, non-surgical technologies, and his signature neck-lift techniques.
Why does a “turkey neck” form in the first place?
Age, genetics, sun damage, weight changes, and gravity weaken the platysma muscle (vertical bands of muscle along the neck), thin the skin, and allow fat to accumulate beneath the chin. The result is loose, drooping tissue often called a turkey neck.
Can exercises tighten a sagging neck?
The evidence is thin
Facial-exercise routines can tone muscles, but there is little scientific proof that they meaningfully tighten skin or erase deep neck laxity.
Subtle, not surgical results
Daily neck moves may offer subtle improvement for mild muscle slackness—and they’re generally harmless to try—but any visible change is typically modest at best and falls short of what patients expect from professional treatments.
To put it simply, neck exercises are no match for moderate to severe sagging neck skin or prominent neck bands.
““I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Claytor, and the entirety of his staff. This was my second procedure with him- from initial consultation through procedure and follow up, you can tell that he cares immensely for both his patients and his staff. I wish more doctors were like Dr. Claytor!!! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his practice to anyone. If you are wanting a surgeon that you know you can trust, and that will care for you and give you excellent results – he’s your guy!””

Proven Non-Surgical Options for a Turkey Neck
When concerns are early or mild, Philadelphia neck lift expert Dr. Claytor recommends office-based treatments that stimulate collagen or refine contours without surgery:
Concern | Med Spa Treatment | How It Helps |
Uneven tone & crepey skin | CO2 laser skin resurfacing or IPL | Heat energy triggers collagen renewal for smoother texture and tighter skin |
Fine lines & mild laxity | Morpheus8 RF microneedling | Microneedling + radiofrequency tightens deeper dermis for firmer neck skin |
Vertical muscle bands | Botox® (platysma “Nefertiti” injections) | Temporarily relaxes tight cords, softening neck lines |
Early fat pocket | Kybella® | Dissolves small fat deposits with no downtime |
Skin texture & laxity | LaMiNa (Dr. Claytor’s proprietary combination of CO2 laser resurfacing, microneedling, & nanofat infusion) | Stimulates skin regeneration to improve firmness, reduce crepey texture, and enhance overall neck contour |
Minimally Invasive Options To Improve A Sagging Neck
For patients who may need more targeted treatments yet not full surgery, Dr. Claytor often recommends minimally invasive options, which may include:
1. Submental liposuction to debulk fat and correct a “double chin” appearance
2. MyEllevate® neck lift suture system to elevate and support neck tissue
3. Precision Tx™ laser liposuction to tighten loose skin and melt residual fat (performed in conjunction with MyEllevate only)

Dr. Claytor performs these procedures using tiny entry points under local anesthesia, with most patients back to normal activities within a few days.
Gold-Standard Solution: Dr. Claytor’s Comprehensive Neck Lift
When skin excess, heavy jowls, or a pronounced turkey neck dominate, neck lift surgery remains the only “one-and-done” fix, and Dr. Brannon Claytor’s neck lift sets a high bar. During the operation, he works on the deeper anatomy, first releasing and elevating the platysma muscle (a step called platysmaplasty) before meticulously trimming excess skin.
This deep-structural approach reshapes the neck from the inside out, creating a smooth, elegant contour that looks entirely natural and lasts for years.

Dr. Claytor’s two decades of facial rejuvenation experience ensure each neck lift (often combined with a facelift) is tailored to the patient’s unique anatomy, revealing a youthful, well-defined jawline that exercises and topical treatments simply cannot achieve.

Two of the most popular anti-aging treatments are facelifts and dermal fillers. Both options can achieve outstanding results, but depending on your needs and goals, one may be better suited for you than the other.
Here, double-board certified plastic surgeon and facial rejuvenation expert Dr. R. Brannon Claytor explains the key differences between facelift vs. fillers to help you make a confident, informed decision.
What is the difference between a facelift and fillers?
A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure designed to lift and reposition deeper layers of the face and neck to address sagging skin, jowls, deep creases, and volume loss at a structural level. During surgery, Dr. Claytor carefully lifts and repositions the underlying muscles (SMAS layer), tightens loose skin, and removes excess tissue to create a smoother, firmer, and more youthful appearance.
A facelift is not simply about tightening the skin; it restores the youthful architecture of the face by vertically lifting what has descended over time.
In contrast, dermal fillers are injectable treatments that add physical volume to specific areas of the face to smooth wrinkles, plump thinning features, and subtly reshape facial contours. Most filler brands, such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and RHA®, are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that binds with water to hydrate and volumize the skin.
In short, while both facelifts and fillers rejuvenate the face, they do so differently:
- A facelift reshapes and lifts the facial structure to correct sagging and significant aging.
- Fillers plump and smooth specific areas without altering the underlying structures.
Can fillers replace a facelift?
Fillers can offer a non-surgical, temporary alternative for patients with mild to moderate signs of aging, but they are not a true replacement for the comprehensive results of a facelift. While fillers are excellent for treating early signs of aging, they are limited in their ability to correct advanced sagging, deep folds, or loose skin.
One of the main reasons fillers can’t replace a facelift is that they work by adding volume rather than lifting or tightening the underlying structures. In patients with more significant aging, repeatedly adding filler to areas of volume loss can lead to an overfilled, heavy appearance, sometimes referred to as “filler fatigue.” Rather than restoring natural contours, excessive filler may obscure the natural beauty of the face.
Remember, a facelift resets the foundation of the face by repositioning deep tissues that have descended with age and removes excess, stretched skin. This comprehensive approach corrects jowling, redefines the jawline, and restores balance to the facial proportions—results that cannot be achieved with injectable treatments alone.
“I am beyond pleased with the outcome of my Deep Plane Facelift! I wanted a natural, not an overdone look, and I got it!! The recovery time was better than expected and Dr. Claytor and staff were extremely helpful and supportive throughout the entire process. A++++++! I highly recommend Claytor Noone Plastic Surgery”
How long do fillers last vs facelift results?
The longevity of your results is an important consideration when choosing between fillers and a facelift:
- Fillers typically last 6 to 24 months, depending on the product and the area treated. They require regular maintenance treatments to sustain results.
- Facelift results can last 10 years or more. While your face will continue to age naturally after surgery, you will still look more youthful than if you had never undergone the procedure.
Fillers are a popular option for early signs of aging because they are minimally invasive, require little to no downtime, and deliver immediate results.

When should you consider upgrading from fillers to a facelift?
At our Philadelphia plastic surgery practice, Dr. Claytor meets regularly with patients who have enjoyed the benefits of fillers for years but have reached a point where non-surgical options no longer deliver the youthful, natural look they desire.
At a certain point, relying solely on injectables can actually accentuate heaviness or distort natural facial proportions. Transitioning to a facelift at the right time preserves a fresh, natural appearance without the risk of looking overdone.
Additionally, for many patients, signs of aging extend below the jawline. Concerns such as a heavy or poorly defined neck, visible vertical bands, or excess skin (often called a “turkey neck”) are also indicators that a facelift (often in combination with a neck lift) is much better suited to achieve the natural and lasting rejuvenation patients seek.
- Related: Can fillers make you look older?
As experienced injectors, both Dr. Claytor and our Physician Assistant, Julie Holesh, are highly skilled at recognizing when fillers can enhance your results—and when it may be time to consider a facelift for the best outcome.
Julie Holesh, PA
Physician assistant Julie Holesh is board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. With both an artistic eye and medical expertise, she can help you achieve optimal skin quality with injectables, laser treatments, and other med spa services.
You might consider moving from fillers to a facelift when:
- You are requiring more filler volume to maintain your results, risking an unnatural or puffy appearance that masks your natural bone structure.
- Fillers no longer adequately lift sagging skin, especially along key areas like the jawline, cheeks, and neck, where volume alone cannot correct underlying laxity.
- You desire a more significant, longer-lasting rejuvenation with minimal future maintenance, rather than returning every few months for touch-ups.
One of the advantages of working with an expert injector like Dr. Claytor or Julie is that they will be completely honest with you about the limits of non-surgical treatments. If your facial aging has progressed to the point where fillers are no longer the best tool to achieve a natural look, they will guide you toward surgical options that align with your aesthetic goals.
In these cases, a facelift allows Dr. Claytor to reset your facial structure in a way that looks refreshed and authentic, not “overdone.” Many patients find that transitioning to a facelift at the right time is a better long-term investment that provides more beautiful and lasting results.
Can fillers complement a facelift?
Yes! Many patients benefit from a combined approach. After a facelift repositions deep tissues, fillers can be used to fine-tune facial features by restoring soft, youthful volume to the lips, cheeks, temples, and under-eye areas for the most harmonious results possible.
In many cases, Dr. Claytor recommends facial fat transfer, particularly to the temples and under-eye areas, as a more permanent alternative to fillers for patients undergoing facelift surgery. Fat grafting offers long-lasting volume enhancement using your body’s own natural tissues, and may be performed either during your facelift or in a separate procedure.
Which is better for you: facelift or fillers?
Choosing between a facelift and fillers ultimately depends on your unique anatomy, aesthetic goals, timeline, and personal preferences.
- Choose fillers if you have mild signs of aging, such as early volume loss, fine lines, or minor contour changes, and want subtle, temporary enhancements with little to no downtime.
- Choose a facelift if you seek significant, lasting rejuvenation for moderate to severe aging concerns and want a worthwhile investment for a one-time procedure that can deliver natural, youthful results for many years.
We carefully evaluate the cause of your concerns—whether it’s volume loss, skin laxity, or both—to recommend whether a facelift, fillers, or a combination of both will best help you achieve your goals.

Looking for a tummy tuck with a streamlined recovery, natural-looking results, and fewer complications? You are wise to learn about the drain-free tummy tuck, a specialized procedure that achieves gorgeous results while also eliminating the need for post-operative drains. As an expert in this technique, Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Brannon Claytor has exclusively performed drain-free tummy tucks for over 10 years. Here are 4 reasons to choose this procedure, plus how to find a tummy tuck surgeon.
1. No cumbersome drain to wear after surgery
The obvious benefit of a drain-free tummy tuck? There are no post-op drains to wear! Dr. Claytor’s technique allows the body to drain fluid from the surgical area on its own. You’ll completely skip the hassle of emptying drain fluids after surgery, as well as the 24/7 discomfort of wearing drains.
Being more comfortable sooner after surgery also means that you may find it easier to be up and about. This movement helps you to more quickly return to normal; Dr. Claytor encourages his patients to be lightly active around the house and take a shower the day after surgery.
Being more comfortable after surgery also means that you may find it easier to be up and about, which helps you to more quickly return to normal.
2. Faster tummy tuck recovery
Tummy tucks are well-known for requiring patience during the recovery period, but a major benefit of a drainless tummy tuck is that the technique helps to speed up recovery. During surgery, Dr. Claytor leaves a thin layer of scarpa’s fascia (connective tissue) intact below the skin, ultimately leaving the abdominal wall’s natural lymphatic drainage system intact, also. This allows the body to carry away fluid that would otherwise accumulate in the operated area, and it has added benefits: there is less trauma to your tissues, improving blood supply and reducing the strain on your healing body.
3. Fewer complications
Dr. Claytor’s independent research has demonstrated that drainless tummy tucks result in lower fluid collection rates than those of those patients who wear plastic drains at their incision sites. This helps to reduce the odds of developing a seroma, a post-surgical complication in which fluid collects beneath the skin.

4. Excellent tummy tuck results
A drainless tummy tuck addresses the same concerns as a traditional tummy tuck: this technique also tightens stretched abdominal muscles, removes excess skin, addresses fat deposits or a tummy pooch, and creates a natural-looking belly button. As such, you can expect the same benefits to your shape, your comfort, and your confidence:
- Firmer, more supportive abdominal musculature
- Relief from diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles) & symptoms related to the condition, such a lower back pain and urinary incontinence
- Removal of excess skin and fat
- A contoured, proportional abdominal shape
- Improved quality of life
As with a traditional tummy tuck, incisions are typically placed from hip bone to hip bone, low on the abdomen so that they are hidden within the bikini line once healed.
Finding a surgeon for a drain-free tummy tuck
Before scheduling a consultation, ask any plastic surgeon you are considering if they perform drainless tummy tucks, technically called a scarpas-sparing abdominoplasty. Not all surgeons are trained and experienced in this technique, and you should not choose a surgeon who is any less than a specialist in this advanced method. As always, it is critical to look for a surgeon’s board certification, skill, and evidence of many previous happy patients.
Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Brannon Claytor is a well-known drainless tummy tuck expert. In addition to educating his Bryn Mawr, Main Line, and Philadelphia tummy tuck patients about this procedure, Dr. Claytor educates fellow surgeons on the drain-free technique and has pioneered research that demonstrates its effectiveness; he also teaches an advanced course on scarpas-sparing abdominoplasty at national meetings of The Aesthetic Society. Body lift plastic surgery is seeing a marked increase, and our very own Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. R. Brannon Claytor is at the forefront of this trend, helping patients complete their weight loss journey with body lift plastic surgery.
“Losing weight is a monumental achievement, but for many, it’s only the beginning. A body lift can help you feel truly at home in your new shape.”
—Dr. Claytor
In a recent feature in a Wall Street Journal article titled “Ozempic Slimming Can Make Skin Sag. Enter the $20,000 ‘Body Lift.’,” Dr. Claytor provided valuable insights into why procedures like the lower body lift—often called a 360-degree body lift—are growing in popularity, particularly among those who have shed significant weight with Ozempic, Mounjaro, and other GLP-1 medications.

Why body lifts are on the rise alongside GLP-1 medications
According to Dr. Claytor, patients who lose 50 to 100 pounds through these medications are sometimes unprepared for the excess, sagging skin that remains.
“After achieving such a dramatic transformation, it can be disappointing to find that loose skin hides all the hard work,” he explains.
Post-weight loss body contouring addresses this concern by removing and tightening the skin around the abdomen, back, buttocks, arms, thighs, and other areas. Dr. Claytor’s patients often choose to complete their journey with a body lift after Ozempic weight loss, making their new shape look and feel more natural.
Dr. Claytor’s plastic surgery expertise
Dr. Claytor has extensive credentials that set him apart in this field. As a board-certified plastic surgeon and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Bryn Mawr Hospital, he’s accustomed to planning and performing complex procedures. He offers both surgical and non-surgical treatments, tailoring each plan to the patient’s overall health, skin quality, and personal goals.
“With Dr. Claytor, I was in the hands of an incredibly gifted plastic surgeon. My results were beyond what I could have imagined. Dr. Claytor is an ultimate professional with a personal rapport. He delivers beauty, happiness, and confidence. Picking a plastic surgeon is a very personal experience. Dr. Claytor will be honest and straightforward on guidance for the best approach for you. He is someone you can trust. I believe he is the “best of the best”.”
For those curious about body lift after Ozempic weight loss or other GLP-1 medications, Dr. Claytor stresses the importance of seeking out a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. He encourages prospective patients to understand that surgery is often the final piece of a much larger puzzle, and that with the right surgeon, it can be a life-changing experience after weight loss with GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Philadelphia, PA—Dr. R. Brannon Claytor, a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Philadelphia and facial rejuvenation expert, has been honored by The Aesthetic Society with the prestigious Tiffany Award for Best Scientific Presentation. His presentation, Nanofat Rescue following Aggressive CO2 Treatments and Microneedling for Peri Oral Rhytids, detailed his innovative facial rejuvenation treatment to enhance skin regeneration and reduce lines around the mouth. It was recognized as the top scientific presentation at The Aesthetic Meeting 2024 in Vancouver.

“I am truly honored to receive the Tiffany Award for Best Scientific Presentation,” said Dr. Claytor. “I have spent years researching how I can improve patient outcomes, and to be able to present my research and techniques at The Aesthetic Meeting was itself an honor. I am grateful to contribute to the ongoing evolution of facial aesthetics and to be acknowledged by my esteemed colleagues.”
The Aesthetic Society’s Tiffany Award is given annually to the individual who delivers the most outstanding scholarly work at the Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting, and it is the highest honor the organization bestows on a plastic surgeon for a scientific presentation. The Tiffany Award reflects The Aesthetic Society’s commitment to advancing the art and science of aesthetic plastic surgery through the support of its members’ outstanding research.
Dr. Claytor’s award-winning presentation showcased his novel facial rejuvenation technique that leverages CO2 laser resurfacing to remove damaged skin and stimulate collagen production, microneedling to promote cell regeneration and elastin formation, and nanofat grafting to improve skin texture and tone while promoting faster healing. The procedure, which Dr. Claytor refers to as “LaMiNa” at his Philadelphia plastic surgery practice, has shown remarkable success in reducing perioral wrinkles and rejuvenating the face with minimal downtime.
Dr. Claytor explained, “Traditionally, lines around the mouth are reduced with dermal fillers, which add physical volume to fill in the lines. These effects are short-lived and may not appear natural in some patients. LaMiNa treatment effectively restores the lost collagen that allowed these lines to form in the first place. This technique achieves more natural-looking and longer-lasting results while also improving skin quality and resilience.”
Dr. Claytor will be officially presented with the Tiffany Award at The Aesthetic Meet 2025 in Austin, Texas.
In addition to accepting this distinguished honor, Dr. Claytor has also been invited to serve as a panelist at The Aesthetic Meet, discussing the latest innovations in abdominoplasty. Dr. Claytor will present on high-definition abdominoplasty, a refined tummy tuck approach designed to enhance muscle definition and sculpt key areas of the midsection.
“I’m excited to be part of this important discussion on advancing abdominoplasty techniques,” said Dr. Claytor. “High-definition techniques allow us to precisely contour the abdominal area, defining features like the rectus abdominis or ‘six-pack’ muscles, obliques, and waistline to achieve a more sculpted look and athletic physique for both men and women. I look forward to sharing insights on effective surgical techniques, patient selection, and strategies for optimizing long-term outcomes.”
The Aesthetic Meet is a premier event dedicated to advancing the field of aesthetic surgery through education, innovation, and collaboration. Dr. Claytor will also instruct the course on Deep Plane Facelift, a superior facelift technique he is renowned for, at the event. His inclusion as a panelist and instructor at the Meet further solidifies his reputation as a leader in body contouring and facial plastic surgery innovation.

Facelifts are one of the most effective aesthetic procedures for reversing signs of aging, but how satisfied are patients with their results? A recent study analyzed patient reviews on the aesthetic surgery website RealSelf.com to uncover key factors that influence facelift satisfaction. The findings provide valuable insights for those considering the procedure.
The study
The 2024 study, Assessing Patient Satisfaction Following Facelifts with Social Media Reviews, examined 2,153 facelift reviews from RealSelf.com using an automated web crawler. Reviews were categorized as either positive or negative, and further classified based on primary and secondary reasons for patient satisfaction or dissatisfaction. The study also analyzed physician specialty, star ratings, and procedure cost.
The data suggests that aesthetic results and surgeon communication play a significant role in whether a patient feels their facelift was “worth it.”
Key findings
The results overwhelmingly pointed to high patient satisfaction rates after facelift surgery:
- 92.24% of patients left positive reviews
- 91.91% of patients who provided a rating said their facelift was “Worth It”
The most common reasons for a positive review were:
- Aesthetic results (79.1%)
- Surgeon’s bedside manner (74.92%)
The most common reasons for a negative review were:
- Dissatisfaction with aesthetic outcomes (82.04%)
- Poor bedside manner (49.1%)
Facelift procedures were primarily performed by board-certified plastic surgeons (83.42%).
What this means for prospective facelift patients
This study confirms that most patients are highly satisfied with their facelift results and highlights the importance of choosing a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon who prioritizes both surgical expertise and patient experience.
If you are considering a facelift, selecting a highly experienced plastic surgeon who understands your goals and provides thorough preoperative consultations is crucial for achieving the best possible outcome.

The term “mini breast aug” refers to a specialized version of breast augmentation and is designed to provide subtle, natural breast enhancement without creating a dramatic change in size. While the technique is not new—Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Brannon Claytor has been performing natural-looking breast augmentation for decades—the increasing demand for aesthetic procedures that enhance natural beauty has recently popularized the term.
Here, Dr. Claytor explains his approach to mini breast augmentation and who may be a good candidate for the technique.
Dr. Claytor’s approach to mini breast augmentation
Dr. Claytor recommends a mini breast aug to achieve aesthetic goals such as:
- Improving breast shape and proportion conservatively
- Restoring a moderate amount of lost volume
- Correcting mild asymmetry between breasts
Generally, patients seeking a mini breast aug increase their breast volume by about one cup size. A mini breast augmentation can be achieved through two primary techniques: breast implants and fat transfer to the breast.

Mini breast aug with implants
If implants are chosen, they are typically smaller in size, often in the range of 100cc to 250cc. Keep in mind that there are several measurements and considerations Dr. Claytor accounts for when recommending an implant size range for mini breast augmentation—the implant size right for you may not fall within the typical range. It is imperative that you choose a highly experienced Philadelphia breast augmentation specialist to ensure you love your results.
The mini breast augmentation aligns with a broader shift in plastic surgery trends toward subtle, natural enhancements.
Just like with any breast augmentation procedure, you’ll have a choice between saline and silicone implants, as well as different profile options. Dr. Claytor can also place your implants either above the muscle (subglandular) or beneath the muscle (submuscular). In some cases, Dr. Claytor can safely and painlessly perform mini breast augmentation under IV sedation and local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia.
The results of a mini breast aug with implants provide just the right amount of shape and volume to correct mild aesthetic concerns and enhance the natural elegance of your breasts. Dr. Claytor’s team uses Crisalix 3-D imaging to show you how you will look with different-sized breast implants so you feel confident in your choices.

Mini breast aug with fat transfer
Fat transfer to the breast is also an excellent option to achieve a mini breast augmentation. Dr. Claytor uses liposuction to harvest fat from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks and then carefully purifies it to be injected into your breast tissue. With your goals in mind, Dr. Claytor precisely places the fat to correct minor imperfections and enhance the overall appearance of your breasts—similarly to breast implants.
“Mini breast aug” is a trending term for what Dr. Claytor has delivered for hundreds of patients—natural breast augmentation results that align seamlessly with your goals.
Not all of the transferred fat survives, so Dr. Claytor typically places a little more fat than needed so that your final results meet your expectations. In some cases, patients may need a secondary procedure if they experience lower fat transfer take rates. Fat transfer mini breast augmentation is just as personalized as augmentation with implants and has the added benefit of targeted fat removal in other body areas. It can also be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, making it an attractive choice for those who want to avoid general anesthesia.
Dr. Claytor will explain both options during your consultation and help you determine the right approach for you.

Candidates for a mini breast augmentation
A mini breast augmentation is ideal for patients who:
- Desire a subtle enhancement rather than a dramatic transformation
- Have adequate skin elasticity and minimal sagging
- Are seeking moderate volume restoration after pregnancy or weight loss
- Want to correct mild asymmetry or enhance their natural breast shape
Although not everyone is a candidate for a mini breast augmentation, patients who work with Dr. Claytor can still achieve natural breast augmentation results. For example: Even if you would benefit from a breast lift (mastopexy) to remove excess skin and firm your breast tissue along with your augmentation, your results will still look natural.
It’s important to remember that “mini breast aug” is a trending term for what Dr. Claytor has delivered for hundreds of patients—natural breast augmentation results that align seamlessly with your goals.

Dr. Brannon Claytor’s proprietary three-step anti-aging treatment, LaMiNa, is especially effective for reducing perioral “lip lines”—an area that is notoriously difficult to treat. Taking note of these results, New Beauty magazine recently featured the groundbreaking treatment alongside an interview with one of Dr. Claytor’s patients, LuAnne.
Thanks to Dr. Claytor’s innovative approach—combining CO2 laser resurfacing, microneedling, and nanofat transfer—this “LaMiNa” treatment minimizes even stubborn vertical lines around the lips. Laser remodels the skin, while microneedling deeply penetrates the skip to deliver the final step—nanofat, harvested with a small liposuction procedure—deep into the skin with two noteworthy effects:
- Deepens the effects of the laser procedure
- Promotes faster healing and reduces pain from the laser
According to LuAnne, “The way he explains it to me is that your body realizes it’s your own fat, and somehow it heals it, and you just don’t feel that burning sensation at all…It felt so soothing like my skin recognized it immediately.” She added that, by day 5 post-treatment, “The texture of my skin was amazing. It was just so much better.”

The three-step protocol can be applied to the face, neck, and chest, and doesn’t only target lip lines—it also addresses sun damage, skin texture, and wrinkles in other areas, making it a highly versatile solution for facial rejuvenation.
Lip lines can be one of the most challenging areas to rejuvenate, but the LaMiNa procedure provides a targeted solution that blends advanced technology with natural regenerative aesthetics for subtle, beautiful results and minimal downtime.
With more than two decades of surgical experience and aesthetic expertise, Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Claytor works hard to make sure that each patient’s journey is tailored to their goals and overall skin health, while employing the most advanced techniques and technology available.

Creating sleek, sculpted arms with an arm lift (brachioplasty) requires meticulous skill and advanced surgical techniques. While many surgeons use general anesthesia, Dr. Brannon Claytor has redefined the arm lift experience for his patients by performing the procedure, which removes excess skin and tightens underlying tissue, with only local anesthesia to numb the surgical area and an oral medication for relaxation. Below, we explain the top three reasons why this approach benefits patients.
1. Repositioning during surgery
One of the unique advantages of local anesthesia during an arm lift is that it allows patients to remain responsive during the procedure. This responsiveness enables you to reposition your arms as needed—a critical aspect for achieving a natural and balanced outcome.

Adjusting arm positions in real time helps Dr. Claytor view the arm’s appearance from every angle. He ensures the optimal amount of skin (and fat if needed) is removed and the remaining skin and tissue is reshaped to provide outstanding muscle definition and skin firmness along the triceps and biceps, as well as the inner and outer arms. Dr. Claytor incorporates this level of customization to refine arm lift results so that they best meet each patient’s aesthetic goals and create a symmetrical, beautifully natural final outcome.
“I would highly recommend it! I waited 13 years to do it, and I would not hesitate to do it again!”

2. Less post-surgery discomfort and recovery
An unexpected yet significant benefit of performing an arm lift with local anesthesia is the reduction in post-surgical shoulder soreness. Under general anesthesia, patients are unconscious and thus cannot feel any unintentional discomfort that position changes by the surgeon or medical team may create in the shoulders after long periods of time. Remaining in this fixed position, immobile for the duration of the surgery, may lead to stiffness and discomfort in the shoulder and neck areas after the procedure.
With local anesthesia, however, patients can intermittently rest their arms during the operation as needed to minimize strain on the shoulder joints. This approach enhances the patient’s comfort during surgery, and also accelerates recovery by reducing muscle fatigue and soreness. Dr. Claytor’s patients report feeling more mobile and recovering faster than expected in the days following their procedure.

3. Communication with the care team
As transformative as arm lift results are, we understand that the surgery part of the experience can make some patients anxious. The opportunity to remain awake and feel no pain greatly reduces much of the pre-procedure anxiety patients may have. During surgery, Dr. Claytor’s patients are able to talk to him and the medical team at all times. Only the surgical area is numb, so when patients would like to rest their shoulders, they can simply tell the care team. Knowing they can communicate, ask any questions, be fully aware of their surroundings, and feel no pain is quite reassuring to anyone considering an arm lift in Bryn Mawr.

Avoiding general anesthesia also reduces the risk of complications associated with being fully sedated, such as nausea, grogginess, and extended recovery time.
Patients appreciate the quicker return to normalcy that local anesthesia offers, as it eliminates the lingering effects of heavy sedation.
Dr. Claytor’s approach to arm lifts: Drain-free recovery & minimal disruption to your routine
In addition to performing arm lifts under local anesthesia, Dr. Claytor’s advanced arm lift techniques do not require post-surgery drains to collect fluid build-up from the surgical sites. Surgical drains are sutured in place and require regular draining by the patient or caregiver. Drains can be cumbersome during recovery as they may limit certain body positions—they are usually worn for 1-3 weeks—and may cause infections or other complications. Dr. Claytor does not use drains in other plastic surgery procedures as well, such as a drainless tummy tuck.
Dr. Claytor also uses compression garments and surgical wraps sparingly so that patients aren’t confined for weeks, as is typical protocol for some plastic surgeons. Combining modern techniques and a thoughtful, gentle surgical approach makes Dr. Claytor the premier choice for those looking for arm lift surgery in Philadelphia.

Our gorgeous patient, how old are you again?
39!
39! So young, so beautiful. She had an awesome brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift. She had an incision along here. Go ahead and flex against me. Look at this phenomenal definition! See this beautiful biceps and this groove between her biceps and her triceps? Just fantastic. And let’s look at the other side and see the same. Do the same. Look at that incredible definition—outstandingly beautiful! And the nice deltoid groove between the biceps and the triceps and this beautiful shape and contour where she’s got very tight and snug in her armpit here, and then this beautiful shape and contour out to here.
Can I have you spin around so that we can see you from behind and do the same? You can just see this beautiful shape and contour here. Then we’ll go over to this side. See the absolute same. Tremendous, tremendous symmetry.
Spin back around. Thank you so much. So, what was the best part of this operation?
The tumescent anesthesia,
Doing it under local?
Yes!
Wasn’t it fun?
It was fun!
Chatting with all the nurses…
And I feel like my recovery was a lot quicker because of that. That’s just my opinion.
I totally agree. I totally agree because while I’m operating on you, I can reposition you and move you around. You remember how I bring your arm down during surgery to give you a rest? Cause if you’re asleep, you know, you can’t tell that your shoulder’s aching while you’re up there the whole time
Right!
This way, I’m able to work, contour, and create this beautiful, beautiful contoured axilla.
Do you still use underarm deodorant?
I do, just for choice, but I found that I don’t actually need it.
Right, because we take a fair amount of the hair from that area. We take some of the actual armpit tissue out as part of it, so we can give you that snatched axilla.
Did I have you wrap for very long afterward?
I was wrapped for maybe three days.
Three days!
And how many drains did we have?
Zero.
No drains! Yeah, I think it’s totally unnecessary. And then wrapping, I think, is just a hassle and a nuisance.
How quickly did you get back to full activity?
Full activity? Well, to be honest with you, I had surgery on Thursday. By Saturday, I was washing my own hair. Maybe that’s a little quick, but I was. I was back fully but doing remote work within a week, and then full activity within, I would say, two and a half weeks.
Wow. I tell people a month, so you were even more accelerated than the average patient. That’s fabulous!
Is this something that you would recommend to a friend?
I would highly recommend it! I waited 13 years to do it, and I would not hesitate to do it again!
Fantastic! High five! Thank you so very much.
Thank you!
Thanks so much. Arm aesthetics right here!
