What is SmartLipo for Men?
SmartLipo, also known as laser liposuction, uses triple wavelength laser technology to melt away unwanted fat around the muscles and tighten loose, sagging skin. SmartLipo’s newest Triplex technology allows its laser’s wavelengths to be used independently or together for optimum fat burning. SmartLipo has been FDA-approved for over 13 years and its efficacy has been proven by numerous medical studies.
Here’s how it works: the laser goes to work dissolving body and/or facial fat, which your body naturally processes and excretes. A very small tube (called a cannula) is inserted into the treatment area to remove any excess liquid that may accumulate.
What areas of the body can SmartLipo treat?
Because of the smaller cannula used and its ability to tighten skin as it dissolves fat, SmartLipo is ideal for areas of the male face that traditional liposuction can’t adequately address, such as the jowls, chin, jaw, and neck.
SmartLipo is also highly effective at contouring areas of the body, including the:
- Abdomen
- Back & flanks (“love handles”)
- Thighs
- Buttocks
- Upper arms
What are the benefits of SmartLipo for Men?
Men’s SmartLipo is incredibly effective at revealing a man’s natural muscle tone and defining his face, neck, & jawline. SmartLipo’s benefits also include:
- Reduces exercise-resistant fat pockets and boosts your body’s natural collagen levels, prompting your body to heal itself quickly
- Smaller and fewer scars than traditional liposuction
- Fewer potential complications than traditional liposuction because it uses local anesthesia and requires fewer incisions
- Results can be seen immediately
- Minimally invasive, meaning less trauma on surrounding tissue
- Requires little downtime
SmartLipo vs Men’s Liposuction
One of the major advantages of SmartLipo is its ability to tighten and smooth skin as it removes fat. With traditional liposuction, men can be left with loose, sagging skin after fat is removed if their skin lacks elasticity—but SmartLipo’s laser technology heats tissues to encourage collagen production in the skin for smoother, more even contours.
And unlike traditional liposuction, SmartLipo for men can address embarrassing cellulite that accumulates on the body over time.
Are there any risks associated with Men’s SmartLipo?
SmartLipo has very few risks, especially when compared to traditional liposuction. The risk of blood loss (one of the greatest risks associated with traditional liposuction) is reduced by more than 50% during men’s SmartLipo because of the smaller (and fewer) number of incisions required, and the increased blood vessel coagulation and skin healing provided by the laser.
SmartLipo is considered a minimally invasive surgery and therefore still carries some risks, including:
- Bruising
- Infection
- Thermal burns
- Scarring
Who is a good candidate for SmartLipo?
While SmartLipo can be used on a variety of men, it is most effective for those who:
- Are in generally good physical shape and want to spot-reduce extra fat deposits
- Want to sculpt their body without traditional liposuction
- Want to avoid general anesthesia and minimize their recovery time
- Don’t smoke
- Plan to maintain a healthy lifestyle following surgery, including diet and exercise
- Have realistic expectations of their results
It’s important to note that the amount of fat that can be eliminated by SmartLipo depends on the size of your body, your body composition, and your treatment area(s). Dr. Claytor will be happy to discuss whether you are a good candidate for SmartLipo.
What is Male SmartLipo surgery & recovery like?
During SmartLipo surgery, a topical cream is used to completely numb the treatment area so that patients are comfortable and don’t experience any pain. Once the area is fully numb, very tiny incisions are placed in the skin and a micro-cannula (a very small, hollow tube) is inserted underneath the skin.
The laser’s heat energy immediately goes to work melting fat and tightening skin, and any excess fatty fluid is suctioned out of the body through the cannula. Because of the numbing cream, you’ll only feel some slight pressure and movement. Many of our patients listen to music or read a magazine while getting SmartLipo. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the area(s) of treatment.
After your SmartLipo treatment, you’ll need to wear a compression garment for a few weeks to allow your skin to adapt to your body’s new contours. You can expect to feel sore for several days after your SmartLipo procedure and may experience some minimal bruising and swelling, but these symptoms will dissipate over the next few weeks.
You should be able to resume normal activities the day after your procedure (including going back to work if your job isn’t physically demanding), but avoid strenuous physical activity for up to a week. You can expect to see your SmartLipo results as soon as your swelling goes away (usually after a month), with final results becoming apparent around 6 months.
