Renuvion® Skin Tightening

Now Performed on the AYON™ Body Contouring System

Removing fat doesn’t always tighten the skin left behind. Dr. Brannon Claytor offers liposuction paired with Renuvion, the body contouring technology four out of five surveyed surgeons rank the #1 device for tissue tightening during liposuction.¹

Renuvion’s tissue contraction is FDA-cleared,³ and Dr. Claytor now delivers it alongside fat removal in a single procedure on the AYON Body Contouring System. Patients researching body contouring in Philadelphia at Claytor Plastic Surgery no longer need a separate liposuction visit and a separate skin-tightening visit—both happen at the same appointment.

How Renuvion Works

Renuvion tightens loose skin by combining two energy sources in a single handheld device: radiofrequency energy and helium plasma. Dr. Claytor inserts the Renuvion wand beneath the skin through a small incision, about the width of a pencil eraser.

Radiofrequency energy heats the underlying tissue to a controlled temperature, contracting it immediately and triggering a longer wave of new collagen production. Helium plasma cools the skin’s surface at the same moment, which is what lets the device run hotter, and more effectively, than radiofrequency alone safely could.

That combination is why Renuvion is FDA-cleared for tissue contraction following liposuction,³ and why it treats loose skin that non-invasive, energy-based skin-tightening treatments can’t fully address in a single session. Renuvion has been used in more than 325,000 treatments to date.⁶

Where Renuvion Is Used

Renuvion treats loose or crepey skin in several areas:

  • Face, neck, and jawline
  • Arms
  • Abdomen
  • Back and bra line
  • Flanks
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Knees
  • Chest

What AYON Adds to Renuvion

The AYON Body Contouring System pairs Renuvion with advanced ultrasound-assisted liposuction on one platform, so Dr. Claytor removes unwanted fat and contracts the loose skin left behind in the same procedure—no second machine, no second visit. AYON’s UAL Smart LIFT technology adjusts its energy frequency in real time during fat removal, keeping the treatment responsive to each patient’s tissue rather than running on one fixed setting. Apyx Medical, the manufacturer behind both Renuvion and AYON, has built advanced energy devices for surgical and aesthetic use since 1978.

For you, that means fewer procedures and less total downtime: fat removal and skin tightening happen back to back, in one operating room visit, instead of being staged across separate appointments.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Renuvion or AYON

Renuvion and AYON are commonly used for mild to moderate loose skin, with or without fat reduction, in several common scenarios:

  • Loose or sagging skin after significant weight loss, including weight lost through GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic or Wegovy
  • Skin laxity after pregnancy
  • Age-related loss of skin firmness in the face, neck, arms, or abdomen
  • Patients who want fat removal and skin tightening addressed together, without the longer incisions of a traditional lift

Dr. Claytor determines whether you are a good candidate for Renuvion versus a more extensive lift procedure during a consultation, based on the amount of excess skin, its elasticity, and the areas you are hoping to address.

“Fantastic experience all around. Dr. Claytor is an excellent surgeon and an absolute pleasure! He explained my procedure thoroughly, listened to all my input, and the result is gorgeous. The entire staff was friendly, professional, and personable. I highly recommend Dr. Claytor and his entire team. I will continue to go to him for my future surgeries, and looking forward to it!”

What to Expect During the Procedure

Dr. Claytor performs Renuvion and AYON procedures under local or general anesthesia, decided together with each patient based on the treatment plan. During a combined procedure, fat removal with ultrasound-assisted liposuction comes first; Dr. Claytor then uses Renuvion to contract the remaining tissue through the same small incisions.

Procedure length depends on the number and size of areas treated—Renuvion alone adds only a few minutes per area to a standard liposuction case,⁴ and most combined procedures are completed in a single session.

Recovery and Results Timeline

Swelling, bruising, and soreness in the treated area are normal in the first several days. Most patients take a few days away from work; areas like the face and neck may call for up to two weeks of visible healing before results are camera-ready. Renuvion’s energy delivery is designed to limit tissue trauma compared with more invasive lift procedures, which supports a gentler recovery.

Initial tightening is visible soon after swelling subsides, and results continue to improve as new collagen forms—most patients see meaningful change within one to two months, with improvement continuing for six to nine months. Results vary by patient.

Renuvion + AYON vs. Other Body Contouring Options

Non-surgical skin-tightening devices work at the surface of the skin and typically need several sessions to produce a visible—and still modest—change. Traditional excisional lifts remove more skin through longer incisions and carry a longer recovery. Renuvion and AYON sit between the two: a single, minimally invasive procedure that reaches beneath the skin’s surface, without the longer incisions or extended downtime of a lift.

For patients who need more skin removed than energy-based contraction can address, Dr. Claytor will recommend the appropriate body lift procedure during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Renuvion is an FDA-cleared technology that tightens loose skin using a combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma, delivered beneath the skin’s surface through a small incision.³

AYON is the platform Dr. Claytor uses to perform Renuvion alongside ultrasound-assisted liposuction in a single procedure, so fat removal and skin tightening happen in one visit instead of two.

Cost depends on the number of areas treated, whether Renuvion is combined with AYON body contouring, and the extent of correction needed to achieve your goals. Because treatment is customized to each patient’s anatomy and goals, we will provide you with an accurate cost estimate during your consultation.

Removing fat can leave behind loose skin that liposuction alone doesn’t address. Renuvion contracts that loose skin directly at the source, beneath the surface, to help patients achieve a more contoured result after fat removal.

Most patients see their desired results after a single treatment. Renuvion contracts tissue and AYON removes fat in the same session, so additional appointments typically aren’t needed to see results.

Results vary by patient. Visible tightening typically begins within one to two months and continues improving for six to nine months as new collagen forms. Some patients have reported lasting satisfaction with their results years after treatment, per manufacturer-reported patient outcomes data,⁵ though individual results are not guaranteed.

Most patients experience swelling, bruising, and soreness for several days after treatment. Recovery time depends on the number of areas treated and the anesthesia used. Plan for a few days away from work, up to two weeks for areas like the face and neck.

Yes. The Renuvion APR Handpiece has received FDA 510(k) clearance for tissue contraction following liposuction.³

Good candidates have loose or sagging skin from weight loss, pregnancy, or aging, and want fat removal and skin tightening addressed without the longer incisions of a traditional lift. Dr. Claytor confirms candidacy during a consultation.
